FAQ’s
I can usually offer consultation meetings within one week of initial contact. Consultations are held online via a secure video platform and last up to 20 minutes. We can then start scheduling therapy sessions right away; I am usually able to offer a first session within 1-2 weeks, depending on your preferred time slots.
You don’t have to prepare anything for the first session. The first session is called an “Intake” and I will ask you questions to get an understanding of your situation and your background. For all following sessions I recommend taking time before we meet to check in with yourself. You can take the time to relax, drink a cup of tea, reflect on your week and think about what you would like to bring to the session.
There is no fixed length of therapy, and you are always free to decide how long you would like to continue. My work tends to be more in depth and is generally not focused on a quick fix. Around three months can be a useful starting point, but this is not a set timeframe. Some clients come for a few months, while others continue for a year, or a few years. Session frequency can also vary depending on your needs.
Yes, what you share in our sessions will stay between us. The only exceptions are: signs of direct danger to yourself or others, abuse or neglect of vulnerable people, legal obligations due to court order or Public Health Act (i.e., infectious diseases). I will always seek to discuss any issues of confidentiality with my clients first.
I understand how important it is to find the right therapist for yourself. This is why I offer everyone a free 15-20 minutes consultation. This is so you can ask any questions and to see whether you would like to continue having therapy together. Commitment to the therapy process is very important, however, you are not bound to keep seeing a therapist who is not a match for you. You are allowed to terminate our therapy agreement at any point in time and I will aim to refer you to other professionals.
Sessions can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance. Cancellations within less than 24 hours notice result in a full missed session fee, except in the case of emergencies.
I am not currently affiliated with any health insurance companies, so sessions are paid privately. However, some insurance policies may offer reimbursement for privately paid therapy. I recommend checking directly with your insurer to see what may apply to you.
