ADHD Assessment
No waiting times
I offer private ADHD Assessments to adults online and in-person at my office in Amsterdam. Read more below to find out more or contact me with your questions!
Overview
What is private ADHD Assessment?
My ADHD assessment provides a comprehensive psychological evaluation to explore whether your symptoms and experiences are consistent with ADHD, based on established diagnostic criteria (DSM-5) and psychodiagnostic methods.
The assessment looks at your current experiences as well as your developmental history, including how possible ADHD symptoms have affected different areas of your life. It also considers other possible explanations for your difficulties and any co occurring mental health concerns where relevant.
You will receive a written diagnostic report explaining the assessment process, findings, diagnostic conclusion and recommendations. You can use this report when discussing your results with your GP, psychiatrist, therapist, employer, university or another relevant professional.
Different organisations may have their own requirements for accepting a private diagnosis. A private ADHD assessment does not automatically guarantee access to medication, workplace or educational accommodations, benefits, or other services. A huisarts or psychiatrist may take the assessment into account as part of their own clinical decision making, but remains responsible for treatment and prescribing decisions and may decide that additional assessment is needed.
Why go private?
Private assessment can offer an alternative to long waiting times for assessment through the regular healthcare system.
There is no need for a GP referral to contact me directly.
The assessment can also be more flexible and personalised, with time to explore your individual experiences rather than focusing only on whether you meet diagnostic criteria.
If you are interested in further support after your assessment, we can also discuss what might be useful for you going forward, including psychological support or therapy.
What does the process look like?
1. Get in touch
You can contact me to tell me a little about what brings you to assessment and what you are hoping to understand. We can arrange an initial consultation to discuss whether an ADHD assessment is appropriate for you.
2. Intake
We start with an intake session where we explore your current difficulties, developmental history, functioning and reasons for seeking an assessment.
This is also a chance for us to consider whether an ADHD assessment is the right next step. If, based on the information available, I don’t think an assessment would be appropriate, I will discuss this with you rather than continuing with the full assessment.
3. Diagnostic assessment
The assessment includes questionnaires and a detailed semi structured interview about ADHD symptoms and their impact across different areas of your life and across your development.
I use the DIVA interview as part of the diagnostic process. The DIVA is a structured interview specifically developed to assess ADHD symptoms in adults and considers both childhood and adulthood. Dutch clinical guidance recommends the DIVA as part of adult ADHD assessment, alongside further assessment where needed for differential diagnosis and co occurring conditions.
Where appropriate, I may also ask a parent, partner or another person who knows you well to provide additional information about your development and functioning.
4. Formulation and diagnostic conclusion
I bring together the information from our sessions, questionnaires, developmental history and any information from others involved in the assessment.
We will consider whether the diagnostic criteria for ADHD are met and whether ADHD provides a good explanation for the difficulties you are experiencing. Where relevant, I will also consider other or co occurring conditions that may be contributing to your experiences.
5. Feedback and report
We will have a feedback session where we discuss the outcome of the assessment, what it means in the context of your experiences, and any recommendations for next steps.
You will receive a written diagnostic report documenting the assessment, findings, diagnostic conclusion and recommendations.
What’s included?
I want the assessment to be more than simply receiving a diagnosis and a report. The process includes support before, during and after the assessment, so you have space to understand what the findings mean for you and what you might want to do with them.
Free 15 to 20 minute consultation
A short call to hear what brings you to assessment, answer initial questions and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
Intake and clinical evaluation
A more in depth intake where we explore your experiences, history and reasons for seeking an assessment. This also gives us an opportunity to consider whether proceeding with the full diagnostic assessment makes sense for you.
Comprehensive assessment
A structured diagnostic process looking at your current experiences, developmental history and functioning across different areas of life, including consideration of other factors that may contribute to what you are experiencing.
In depth feedback session
A dedicated session to go through the findings and diagnostic conclusion together. We can talk about what the results may help explain, what they mean for you, and any questions or thoughts that come up.
Written report
You receive a written report summarising the assessment, findings, diagnostic conclusion and recommendations, which you can use when discussing the results with other relevant professionals.
Information and practical resources
Depending on your situation, I can provide relevant information, worksheets and handouts to help you understand ADHD and explore what might be useful for you going forward.
Support with next steps
We can discuss possible next steps, including referrals or recommendations for further support. If it feels like a good fit, there is also the option to continue working together in individual therapy after the assessment
What can an ADHD diagnosis help with?
Understand yourself
Make sense of longstanding patterns around attention, organisation, procrastination, impulsivity and emotional regulation
Explore treatment
Discuss ADHD-specific psychological support and, where appropriate, medication with a prescribing professional.
Request accommodations
A diagnosis and accompanying documentation can help you communicate your needs to employers or educational institutions and, where applicable, request reasonable adjustments.
Access support
Depending on the degree of impairment and your circumstances, ADHD-related functional difficulties may be relevant to applications for employment or educational support.
Get clarity
A comprehensive assessment can also help determine whether ADHD is actually the best explanation for your difficulties — or whether something else, or a combination of factors, fits better.
